Allowed, but only in smoking areas
All 9 lines we cover let you bring an e-cigarette or vape. Every one of them treats vaping like smoking: you can only use it in the ship's marked smoking areas, usually on an outdoor deck.
The one exception is Disney's Singapore-based ship, the Disney Adventure. Vapes are banned there completely, because they're illegal in Singapore.
The fines are real
Every line we cover bans vaping in your cabin and on your balcony. Royal Caribbean, Norwegian, Princess, Disney and MSC charge $250. Holland America charges $250 for each day you break the rule. Carnival and Virgin charge $500. Celebrity charges a cleaning fee but doesn't list the amount.
Princess adds that repeat violations can get you removed from the ship.
Packing and charging
Carnival is the most specific about packing. E-cigarettes must go in your carry-on, not a checked bag, and they can't be left charging unattended in your cabin. Charge yours while you're in the room.
On Royal Caribbean sailings from U.S. ports, you must be 21 to have or use tobacco products.
Port days: some countries ban vapes
The ship's rule isn't the only one that matters. Royal Caribbean says vapes can't be taken ashore in Mexico. MSC says Mexico bans bringing vapes into the country, with fines of up to $12,500.
Before a port day, check the rules for that country and leave your vape on the ship if it isn't allowed there.
Where you can vape on board
Each ship marks its own smoking areas, so ask the crew where they are once you board. Norwegian lets active players vape in the casino on most ships. Holland America says e-cigarettes aren't allowed in public areas outside the marked spots.
