Sealed snacks are the safe bet
Carnival, Royal Caribbean, Disney and Virgin allow snacks with limits. The pattern is the same: food that's prepackaged, factory sealed and won't spoil. Royal Caribbean says limited amounts but gives no number, and Virgin says reasonable personal amounts with no bulk items.
Norwegian, Princess and Holland America don't say whether you can bring snacks. Celebrity bans food that could spoil or needs to be kept cold but doesn't address shelf-stable snacks.
Why MSC shows Not allowed
MSC's pages disagree. Its luggage page and FAQ allow dry, packaged, store-bought food. Its Conditions of Carriage say bringing food aboard is strictly forbidden, except baby food and diet items a doctor prescribed. We show the stricter rule. Home-cooked or partly eaten food is banned on both pages.
Homemade food stays home
Carnival, Disney and Virgin ban homemade and pre-cooked food, and Disney and Virgin also ban opened containers. MSC bans home-cooked food. Carnival adds that it can't keep your food cold or cook it for you.
Disney also bans fruit, along with flowers and plants.
Coolers
If you want to carry snacks in a cooler, size matters. Carnival allows a personal cooler up to 12 by 12 by 12 inches as a carry-on, for non-alcoholic drinks and medicine. Princess and Holland America allow about the same size. Disney bans coolers that hold soda or snacks and allows a small one only for medicine, baby food or a special diet. Virgin allows coolers only for medicine or a special diet.
Food from port stops
MSC collects local food you buy in port and gives it back at the end of the cruise. Other lines don't spell out a rule for port food, so check before you buy something to bring aboard.
